Kirby Mobile

The last project of my DIY course was to create something that makes someone happy. For me, that meant incorporating cute characters from media. I wanted some sort of aperatus to showcase them, so I decided to create a rotating mobile of one of my favorite video game icons Kirby. Features include:

  • 7.87 in. rotating plate, powered by 5V battery pack

  • Kirby cutouts of black, pink, and white construction paper
  • String lights in the center of the plate powered by 5V battery pack

  • Shines bright in a dark room, projecting Kirby figures in the background

Ideation of Rotation

I explored different methods about how to create a rotating mobile with the fewest materials. Below are my ideas.

I purchased a battery-powered turntable as the rotating mechanism. I found Kirby sprites online and used the laser cutter to create cutout shapes. I repurposed some bedroom string lights, intricately wrapped them around a paper towel roll, matching the height of the mobile, and secured everything to the turntable using puddy.
